Italian Grand Prix: Johann Zarco endures difficult weekend in Mugello

CASTROL Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco was unable to finish Sunday’s race at the Mugello Circuit.

  • After showing improvement during the warm-up and feeling more comfortable on the bike, French rider Johann Zarco was ready to bounce back from 14th on the grid.
  • He made a strong start and managed to recover several positions in the early stages of the race. In the laps he completed, Zarco felt good on the bike and confident in his pace, ready to continue fighting to gain more positions.
  • However, with 20 laps remaining, while pushing for the top 10, he crashed at Turn 15 after losing the front due to a lack of grip caused by high tyre temperatures.
  • The Italian Grand Prix has been a tough round for the CASTROL Honda LCR team. They will now focus on coming back stronger in Assen next weekend.
Johann Zarco DNF
“I didn’t expect the crash, because I had felt good in that corner all weekend and actually enjoyed riding through it. I lost the front, and I believe it was due to the tyre temperature. It’s a pity, because after yesterday’s outcome I wanted to score some points and end the weekend on a positive note. That said, we had made a step forward, and I was enjoying the laps I completed, feeling strong and overtaking other riders, which was important. In any case, we’ll take the lessons from this weekend and try again in Assen.”
