Americas Grand Prix: Zarco’s Sunday race ends in crash at the Circuit of the Americas after intense battles
CASTROL Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco crashes out in Sunday’s race at the Circuit of the Americas.
- Zarco found some solutions during the morning warm-up, finishing 3rd and improving his lap times compared to yesterday’s qualifying.
- Starting from 15th on the grid, it was a chaotic race start as light rain appeared, making it difficult to decide on the right strategy. Deciding for the rain option, Johann then had to change to dry at the last moment after his rivals made the switch. This led to a delay as everyone switched bikes.
- Once the race finally began, Johann showcased impressive performance, battling for a top-5 position and pulling off some remarkable overtakes.
- However, a small mistake on the last stages of the race saw him end up in the gravel, ending his chances of finishing among the first six riders.
- On the positive side, Johann remains confident and has shown that he has the speed and the feeling on the bike to perform well, even on one of his most challenging tracks.
Johann Zarco DNF
“It was good to start on slicks in the end. It was a crazy start to the race! I didn’t expect the track to dry that quickly, but luckily, we were ready and could make the switch. I’m happy that we took a step forward from yesterday to today, which allowed us to push and get the performance we needed. That’s really important. As for the crash, I lost the rear end of the bike. Overall, the key is that we’ve been competitive and received some positive signs. I’m happy with the progress we’re making, and I want to thank the team for their hard work.”
